Sir,

In continuation of my Confidential Despatch of the 8th May, I have the honour to transmit the enclosed copy of a despatch from His Majesty's Consul-General at Canton to His Majesty's Minister at Peking detailing the depradations committed on Stations of the Chinese Section of the Kowloon Canton Railway during the past two months.

It is now reported that the rebels have been defeated by General Lung Chai-kwong's troops at Waichau with

and wounded

a loss of 1000 killed on the side of the rebels.

The casualties are no doubt greatly exaggerated but the truth of the report is shewn by the influx of refugees from the district into this Colony. These unfortunate people

unpaid, are fleeing before Chan Kwing-ming's routed men who, are looting and robbing.

Attacks upon the Railway will now probably cease.
